About Us

Welcome to Bobcat Math, where we believe that everyone has the potential to excel in mathematics, regardless of their starting point. Our journey is rooted in a personal experience, transforming a high school dropout into a passionate math educator.

My name is Armond Houston, founder of Bobcat Math. Years ago, I found myself at a crossroads following my decision to pursue higher education after earning my G.E.D. Before enrolling in classes, I took a placement test that revealed significant gaps in my mathematical knowledge, requiring me to enroll in developmental math courses. Instead of giving up, I discovered a fascination with the challenges these courses presented.

Determined to turn things around, I worked tirelessly, eventually excelling in college algebra, achieving one of the highest grades in a class of roughly 200 students. This achievement sparked my first tutoring opportunity and ignited my love for teaching. I continued my studies, mastering subjects like Trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and beyond—all while supporting myself through multiple jobs. I ended my undergraduate studies as a straight-A math student and graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos.

Since then, I've had the privilege of helping countless students achieve the math scores needed to transfer to their desired universities and programs. In 2011, I was honored to represent the Austin Community College Libraries' READ campaign, a testament to my commitment to education. Over 12 years of dedicated tutoring experience at Austin Community College have allowed me to share this passion with hundreds of students. At Bobcat Math, we are committed to providing world-class tutoring that goes beyond teaching math—it inspires a love for learning.

Join us on a journey of discovery and growth. Together, we can unlock the mathematician within you.

I worked with Armond at Austin Community College. Excellent knowledge of mathematics and what it takes to be successful in mathematics. He is a student centered motivator and coach as well as a tutor. Overall, one of the best math educators I have worked with.

Armond has been my Calculus 2 tutor for 5 months since June 2024, and he has helped me succeed in Calculus 2 this semester, whereas I failed Calc 2 the previous semester with an F. Armond is a very relaxed and professional tutor, he is super patient when it comes to explaining the details of any math problem and is extremely considerate and understanding of my personal schedule. I definitely recommend Armond as your next math tutor and I will continue to keep him as my tutor.
