About Us

Welcome to Bobcat Math, where we believe that everyone has the potential to excel in mathematics—no matter their starting point or financial situation. Our mission goes beyond teaching math; it’s about unlocking each student’s inner mathematician while removing the barriers that stand in the way of success.

Our Story

Bobcat Math was born from a personal journey of transformation. My name is Armond Houston, founder of Bobcat Math, and I once stood at a crossroads after dropping out of high school. Determined to forge a new path, I earned my G.E.D. and enrolled in college, only to discover significant gaps in my math knowledge. Far from being discouraged, I found myself captivated by the very challenges that initially held me back.

Through countless hours of study in developmental math courses, I not only caught up but excelled—eventually earning one of the highest grades in a college algebra class of nearly 200 students. My performance so impressed my professor that I was personally contacted via email and invited to become a tutor the following semester. This opportunity cemented my passion for teaching and showed me the profound impact dedicated support and hard work can have on a student’s success.

Over the years, I mastered subjects like Trigonometry, Calculus, and Linear Algebra—all while holding multiple jobs to support myself. I graduated as a straight-A math student from Texas State University-San Marcos, proving that with resilience, the right guidance, and unwavering determination, anyone can succeed in math.

A Passion for Education and Service

My dedication to helping others on their educational journeys has guided me through over 12 years of tutoring at Austin Community College. In 2011, I was honored to represent the Austin Community College Libraries’ “READ” campaign, a testament to my commitment to student growth. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of helping countless students achieve the math scores they need to transfer to their dream universities and programs.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

At Bobcat Math, we understand that financial constraints can be a significant barrier to academic success. Having lived through those struggles myself, I’m deeply committed to ensuring cost never stands between a dedicated learner and their potential. We currently offer:

  • Flexible Pricing and Payment Plans
I work directly with each family to create a tutoring plan that meets their academic goals and budget.

  • Sponsored Sessions
Through the generosity of local supporters and businesses, we occasionally provide free or reduced-cost tutoring slots for qualified students.

  • Future Scholarship Initiatives
As Bobcat Math grows, our goal is to establish a formal scholarship fund that sustainably covers tutoring for high-potential learners who lack financial resources.

Whether you’re a student interested in flexible pricing or a community member looking to sponsor a learner, we invite you to get in touch. Together, we can ensure that every student—no matter their background—has the opportunity to excel in math.

We invite you to unlock your potential and discover the power of mathematics with a caring, experienced mentor by your side. Whether you need help brushing up on the basics or tackling advanced coursework, Bobcat Math is here to guide you every step of the way.

I worked with Armond at Austin Community College. Excellent knowledge of mathematics and what it takes to be successful in mathematics. He is a student centered motivator and coach as well as a tutor. Overall, one of the best math educators I have worked with.

Armond has been my Calculus 2 tutor for 5 months since June 2024, and he has helped me succeed in Calculus 2 this semester, whereas I failed Calc 2 the previous semester with an F. Armond is a very relaxed and professional tutor, he is super patient when it comes to explaining the details of any math problem and is extremely considerate and understanding of my personal schedule. I definitely recommend Armond as your next math tutor and I will continue to keep him as my tutor.
